Bring Your Cameras!

I hope you're all planning on bringing your cameras. We hired a professional photographer, but we can use more photographers professional or otherwise. Allison's Mom has come up with some pretty neat articles about amateur digital wedding photography. Check them out:

Manicure Day

Today Allison and I stopped in at a place in LA called Hands to Hold to get a manicure and a pedicure. To be honest if it wasn't for all the episodes of Queer Eye for the Strait Guy I probably wouldn't have gone. Being a guy in a manicure establishment is not the normal manly thing to do, I don't think. But I was curious so I went. I was not alone. Most of the customers there were guys, in fact, other then the employs Allison was the only female there. I assume that the TV show had something to do with it. Anyway it was fun, and my hands and feet never looked better. It was cheap too. I always assumed that places like that ran in the hundreds of dollars, but it was only $24 ($12 for the manicure $12 for the pedicure). Well worth it I think. And the chair I was in had a built in massage thingie. The best part. They use only new instruments and new tubs for each customer so I don't have to worry about catching someone else's fungus. They had a this huge arrangement of shelves where they keep my personal nail cutter, skiers, etc. so each time I go back I only use tools that have touched my hands and feet. Very cool place!

Not feeling well

Today is a rough day for us. Allison isn't feeling well all the stress and being pregnant has taken it's toll on her. So we're not getting much done. Unfortunately most of the stuff that needs to get done I can't do without her (hair appointment, makeup consultations, this kind of thing) so I'm doing as much as I can, I'm cleaning silverware, I'm cutting fabric, I'm learning a lot of handy skills that I probably would never had tried if it wasn't for the wedding. I'm still of the opinion that this is the way to do it. The stress isn't fun but the knowledge that it'll all be over in a week is good. I can't imagine going through this for a long time. Most people I know go through this for two years. I'm sure it all builds up at the end and what were going through is similar to what happens at most people's weddings. Most people wait until the last minuet to do things. The difference is, our wedding is only a last minuet thing.

Tables and Food Final

Yesterday we finalized the tables and food. There's going to be a lot of purple at this wedding. But it's a nice purple, very saturated not too bold. I'm a bit worried what it's going to look like when it's all put together. I just don't want to walk into an overpowering purple room. But there's so many other colors at the ranch that I don't think it's really going to be a problem. The food is going to be good, especial the coffee. I'm picking that up myself from peets and hand delivering it to Scott at the catering place.

I'm still trying to get a final head count for the wedding so if you have not rsvped yet please do so now even if you can't make it. We're still waiting to hear from 23 people.

We're still looking for a vale for Allison. And we decided to rent a harpist. I was pretty surprised how inexpensive she was to work for us for an hour. We're meeting with her today to discuss the music.

And the count down continues!!

One Week Away

It's a week away from the wedding. Things are starting to pull together. Its really rather amazing how well things are starting to pull together. But there's still a lot of work to do. Allison and I drove down to LA today. We're staying with Allison's Mom as we take care of all the last minute details. There's still things like Flowers, Music and food to take care of. Don't worry most of the work has been done, we just need to finalize stuff. I really think it'll be a cool wedding. I can't wait to see it myself.

It's all going to be a lot of fun, but I'm grateful that Allison and I have a week of after the wedding:)

Registries

A lot of people have been asking me where we're registry. We've mostly registered online. It's been an intense couple of months, we'd love to go to a shop and use one of their scanners to pick out stuff we'd like. That sounds like a lot of fun. But we haven't been able to do it. So we registered on line. Here are the three places we've been to.

Here are our registries:

Working and Wedding

I really really really really really don't recommend trying to plan a wedding while going through the height of crunch mode at work at the same time. It just isn't fun. My vacation was supposed to start on Friday. But I worked Saturday and I'll be working Monday possibly Tuesday as well. I didn't get my shot finaled on Friday (not my fault) so I have to work this extra time to get it finaled. Jenny (the best coordinator ever) told me that it was all right, she said they had people that they could pass the shot on to. I could see by her expression that this wasn't exactly true. I know for a fact that the only person that they'd be able to pass it on to would be Tim, and he hasn't seen his one year old in months. I just couldn't do that. So I'm working hard trying to get this last shot out the door, and at the same time I'm trying to finish up the details of the wedding. Hopefully it'll all pull together. Soon. Please I need it to pull together soon.

Ceremony Sneak Peak

The Ceremony is coming together! I'm excited to share some of the details. We've decided to have a ceremony as unique as we are. Pulling pieces from medieval, Victorian, Contemporary sources even some from our imaginations. It's been great working with our friends Melanie and Brian Cordan Young who will be our officients. They have been close friends of mine since Ethan and I met and Ethan's has known them even longer. We couldn't think of anyone more perfect to marry us then close friends who beautiful marriage ceremony we were glad to witness in the Redwood covered forest. And who marriage has been just as wonderful to witness.

We hope to inspire our guests with several opportunities for everyone to participate. I don't want to give too much away yet. There will be plenty at the wedding, but you could even bring your own ribbon or rope I would recommend three feet in length.

There are also opportunities to lend a hand and several people have already asked. Of course it is not necessary and we'll love you just the same! We are working on a task list. Please send us an email if you have a desire to help.

I'm also excited to hear so many people looking into dressing for the affair. Also not necessary for your enjoyment of the day. You probably have something in your closet that would be perfect if you are so inclined.

I must say that reading up on all this Victorian stuff has made my tone quite gentile. I'm even typing with pinkies in the air...

Mystery RSVP

Hmm. We had a guest RSVP on our answering machine but I couldn't understand the message because of static. Our staticy guest please reveal yourself! The worst part is my hormonal brain deleted the message so Ethan never got to hear.

20 Days

Darla (allison's seamstress) finally showed up last night. In her credit, she rented a car to drive up here for a funeral for the weekend. Once she was up here, she got a flat tire, so she had to trade in the car at the airport. At the funeral her car window was smashed in and someone stole her friend's backpack. So she had to trade in the car again. So it's a bit more understandable why she showed up so late. Allison tried on the mockup dress, even the mockup looked great. Things are finally starting to pull together.

21 Days, I HAVE PANTS

Yes it's true, I really started to believe that I was going to show up to my wedding without any pants on because it was just too difficult to find any. But yesterday we went to 3 tux shops and the third one was the charm. They sold me pants. I had no idea it would be that difficult. I also decided to put on the Workman's Shirt that I ordered from Jas. Townsend and Son, Inc. before I sent it back. Just out of the box it looked wrong. Too ruffle, too weird. I was going to send it back right away, but I tried it on and it ended up looking better then the $12.00 shirt I bought from the tux shop did. Cool.

So now I'm mostly dressed. But we're having a bit of a problem with Allison. We're up late waiting for Allison's seamstress to show up for a final fitting. She was supposed to be here at 2:00. It's now 10:30. She called, she'll be here in half an hour. I'm worried that Allison isn't getting enough sleep. She's walking around like a Zombie right now. But I guess we just have to wait. She'll be here soon.

We're still working on the food:)

Looks like Allison's seamstress is here now.

22 Days

It's 22 days until the big day. I said I'd write in this blog every day, and I haven't been doing it. But I'm only 6 days away from my end day on Shrek 2. I have one 215 frame shot left. It's a good shot, I'm trying by hardest to make it look good, but I'm also terribly distracted by the wedding. Doing crunch mode at work and planning a wedding is not fun, I don't recommend it.

We're still working out the food. I'm going to try and pick up pants and a shirt today. At the end of this week I'll be done with Shrek and I can concentrate on the wedding, but then I'll only be two weeks away. Can you sense my nervousness in this post.

So people have started getting their invitations. I really like the way they turned out. Allison's Ant did them, I still can't believe she had wrote the addresses on every single invitation. They look incredible. If you're planning on coming don't forget to rsvp@packthecat.com

It looks like it'll be a fun event!

Invitations

The Invitations went out yesterday and I have already started receiving RSVPs. Now the wedding is starting to feel real. Before it was this far off event that I knew I had to hurry up and plan for, but wasn't sure why. Now it's this date that's right around the corner and there's still so much to do. We still don't have the food and the rentals sorted out. We know what we want, but we nee to find someone who will give it to us. I need to pick up pants and a shirt this weekend. I ordered a shirt from a recreation company called Jas Townsed & Son, Inc. but the shirt showed up not looking like I wanted it to. I really wish I could find one of those high collar Mozart like shirts, the kind that wrap tightly around the neck, like the one Geoffrey Rush wore in the movie Quills. But I have no Idea where to get a shirt like that. I wonder if I can find a gothic store that would carry one. I know there's one in LA, but I don't want to wait tell the last second.

This isn't Geoffrey Rush but this is the shirt I'm talking about: http://www.kinoweb.de/film2001/Quills/pix/qu8.jpg

I also realized that I was late on my allergy shots. I went to the doctor today to get my shots and I was 6 weeks late Yikes! They had to push my dose back pretty far and asked me to start coming in once a week. On top of that I blew a tire today. I've got to go pick up a new one tomorrow.

More tomorrow:)

An update

It's February, and the wedding at the end of this month. That's weeks away. Allison and I are franticly trying to make sure everything that needs to be ordered ahead of time is ordered. It's because of this we haven't been updating this blog as often as we hoped to. I'm going to try and update this bloog once a day. So look out!

I'm franticly trying to finish up my shots on the movie Shrek 2. I have two weeks to finish my shots. I've been pulling 12 hour day, 6 day weeks for a while and on top of that I've been working on wedding stuff on top of that I'm trying to read up on the baby stuff I can find. It's been a lot of fun, they are all things that I really want to do, but this is an extremely fast pace for me:)

Most everyone is dressed, I still don't have any pants. I'm going to look into a costume shop for my best man. I have a tux picked out for him that I think will work well, but I think I might be able to do better. So I'm going to look for a new tux for him at an LA costume shop. If any of you are interested in getting into the spirit of the Late Victorian Era, I highly recommend finding a good costume shop. Look in the yellowpages under theater and you're bound to find a few nice costume shops in your area that specialize in theater wear. The cheap costume shops that specialize in Halloween costumes usually won't do the trick.

I also think we've decided on a menu. Our dilemma for a while was the time. The wedding will be at 2:00 so we're thinking the food would be at 3:00. That's an odd time to serve food. But this is the right time for the English to take tea. So we're thinking of having a High Tea celebration. There will be coffee and Tea from my favorite place "Peets" as well as soda, juice and water. Also we're thinking of having finger sadwitchs, scones and the like. There will be PB&J sadwitches with the crusts cut off for the little ones. It'll be good proper fun.

Anyhoo that's it for today. Toon in tomorrow to find out how things are going.
