Kaitlyn Mae Hurd
born Saturday January 24th
9:44pm
8lbs. 9.6oz
20 inches
We got back home Tuesday afternoon and have spent the last couple days recovering. Everyone is doing well now. Kaitlyn has been sleeping a lot.
From day one Kaitlyn could hold her head up like this. She also appears to have a really strong back.
This is Kaitlyn on the warming bed.
Quinn really enjoys being an older sister. She wants to see what Kaitlyn is doing all the time.

Quinn and I went to Paintbox Kids over the weekend and had fun making a candy house. She was very excited about it, we managed to get a recording of her talking about it.

As Quinn switched from going to school 3 days a week to 5 days a week we decided to save money by making Quinn’s lunch. I’ve been making them in the morning before school, but I’ve been feeling like I was stuck in a rut. Always making the 5 things I knew Quinn would actually eat. Then Allison pointed out Jennifer McCann’s blog for Vegan Lunchboxes.
No I’m not a Vegan and I have no desire to go that rout (I love me a roast beef sandwich), but Quinn has never been much of a meat eater and she had some really good ideas. I picked up the book and stared making some of her recipys. The cool thing is that they’re really easy to make. I made the banana cookies the other week and they tasted great (give it a try, it’s all done with a blender and it’s fast). Last night I made PB&J Calzones using pie crust.
Anyhoo, I’m having a good time making Quinn’s lunches again.

I didn’t want this day to go by without saying this.
Tomorrow is a big day for me. I’m going to do something I’ve never done before and I’m very excited about it. I’m going to vote for someone. I’ve never missed an election but I’ve always just voted for the lesser of two evils. I’ve never liked the candidate I’ve ended up voting for and wished I had more options. I’ve always ended up swallowing hard and voting against the other guy by voting for his strongest opposition. This time it’s different. It’s not that I think that Obama is perfect and I do expect to be disappointed by some of the things he ends up doing in his presidency. But a president can’t be everywhere or do everything, Obama has the ability to inspire, people to do better for themselves and that’s what we need right now. He also seems to be dedicated to the idea of leading though a positive message and not one of fear. Fear is what we’ve put up with for the last eight years and we’re feeling the effect of being afraid to do anything for ourselves.
So I’m voting for Obama and I hope he wins.
If you haven’t seen it here’s Obama’s infomercial for his campaign I don’t think it’s as good as his speech on racerent a car bulgaria (which he wrote himself) but I thought it was still worth watching:
The last thing I thought I’d say, I’ve never seen a candidate inspire more art from the art world. I’ve heard more great music, paintings, videos, stickers action figures, etc then ever before. I have two great action figures, several MP3s and a whole bunch of stickers from artists I love. I really hope this isn’t the last time this happens in a presidential campaign.
I also hope this isn’t the last time I vote for a candidate, maybe that would be the biggest change Obama could inspire.

We made our trek to the Comic Con this weekend. In the car ride it gave us a chance to catch up on episodes of This American Life. You may or may not be familiar with them. They are on public radio (NPR not Pacifica) stations. They are not really news per sei. But often times they will do a show on current issues. This time they did a show on understanding the Mortgage Crisis/Credit Crunch, whatever you choose to call it. They take you up the chain from the home owner borrower all the way to the top. I think as this issue becomes politicized it’s important to know about which you make your opinion. I find it really hard to swallow when I hear uneducated comments like “95% of all Americans are paying on time their mortgages, their rents. They weren’t apart of this very bad equation. But now they’re being asked to come in to have their taxes raised to bail out irresponsible lenders and yes even some irresponsible borrowers.” from Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann. Which is both divisive and untrue. I won’t break it down for you but maybe you can for yourself if you take the time to listen to this:
This American Life, episode 355 “The Giant Pool of Money”
You can listen from this site or if your are mp3 savvy you can down load the show from iTunes for free just search for This American Life.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this in an election. I know my knowledge of history is short, so correct me if I’m wrong, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone throw up a gang sine for a presidential hopeful.
